I've taken an array of art classes throughout my 7 years at Sul Ross. Below you will find some of my best illustrations throughout my time in college.
Under the Digital Art program at Sul Ross a student takes a variety of classes that touch on every kind of art style there. I was introduced to Autodesk Maya and it was the first time I ever used any kind of 3D software. Below is my final project; a 3D model of a Jeep. A challenge during this project was working with photos and making them come to life and getting all of the details right. Importing textures from Photoshop and mapping was also a challenge, so I chose to stick with solid color and create the textures myself rather than flat textures.
In December of 2018 I took a Graphic Novel class where we learned about comics, illustration and storytelling through photos. Below is my final project, depicting of a banker who steals money from the bank he works at. The style is very loose and illustrative. Everything was drawn by hand and then taken into photoshop for color. I chose not to use any words because I wanted to challenge myself to tell a story through illustration only.
On the left the Alpine Jazz Festival poster was created in Adobe Illustrator for a class project. On the right is a poster I created for a Photojournalism Showcase exhibition that I was in for a photojournalism class.
I took a Digital Painting class where I learned to use the program Corel Painter. I found a nice rough style within this program that I enjoyed rather than blending.
Early on in my college years I really struggled finding my own style and identity within art. I was tossed around several traditional art classes where I struggled to draw and paint. When I learned Adobe Illustrator I really found my style of vector illustration with the help of photos. I really enjoy stretching the boundaries using color and take inspiration from my surroundings. Below you will see some of my favorite work where I developed my style. These illustrations were the beginning of the style I would use for the Colored Landscapes Exhibition
